ELECT THE PEOPLE'S LAWYER: David Van Os, Democrat for Texas Attorney General

Get Out the Vote for David with TrueBlueAction

TrueBlueAction has made calling people in your area, demographic interest, or the whole state easy and fun. They even supply a script you can use to get you started. We recommended starting with your own precinct, since these are bound to be your own friends and neighbors!

There is no cold-calling; all of the people on the list are verified voters interested in hearing about Democratic candidates. You also have the ability to leave automated voice messages if you don't get through, to save you some voice.

TrueBlueAction Phone Calling: A Quick "How-To"
tips & advice from TXsharon

• Go to www.TrueBlueAction.com

• If you haven't already, create a "login" (just follow the simple directions).

• Once you've joined, sign in (you might want to right down your nickname and password).

• Click on "Click Here to Help Democrats". From there, you will see David Van Os for Attorney General as the top of the list of Statewide Candidate Options. Click on David Van Os.

• Once you've clicked on one of the calling options, it will take you to another page. Here you will need to enter your NAME, E-MAIL ADDRESS and ZIP CODE and then click "SIGN IN".

• When you've signed in, you will be given the option of the demographic you would like to call (based on ethnicity, age, etc., or ANYONE).

• Below that is a "PRECINCT" box. The drop down list is sorted by COUNTY AND PRECINCT WITHIN THE COUNTY. Choose a precinct. As the Chair of Austin County, Precinct 209, that's where I'll start.

• Now that you've chosen a Precinct, you will be taken to a screen that has some very useful tools. READ THEM. It's actually very easy, because they provide you with a "script" to follow! As you scroll down, you will be given a phone number to call. It lists the voting age residents in that household (how cool is that!).

Before making your first call, I would suggest reading all the way through this page SEVERAL TIMES so you'll be familiar with what's coming up next

• IMPORTANT NOTE: In the first blue box it gives you options for leaving a voice message. Do one of 2 things:

a) use their scripted message or instead of having to get a scripted message from a candidate's coordinator or campaign, you can

b) condense the "if call answered" message that is GREEN and also tell them the early voting location and their Precinct Polling Location (the polling location is close to the bottom of the script page in the YELLOW section).

• If someone answers the telephone, ask to speak to one of the people listed. Click the circle by their name to select them and proceed.

From this point, just scroll through the screen at the web site and click in the appropriate spaces to tell TrueBlueAction the result of your call.

• When you have completed the call and clicked "SUBMIT", you will be taken to the next screen.

• From here, you can choose to a) make another call, b) change campaigns or c) logout.

• PERSONAL NOTE: Don't feel as though you have to call in the evenings! People work at all times of the day and evening and you might miss someone that works evenings if you limit your calls to that time period! I try not to call from around 11:30 -1:00 in the daytime, so as not to interfere with lunch or between 5:30 Ð 7:00 so as not to interfere with dinner. Out of courtesy, I also don't make calls after 9:00 p.m.
